PARKiosk is conceived as a public marker: a lightweight, mobile, and temporary structure that operates both as a functional kiosk and as a testing ground for ideas. Part of an ongoing body of work by Surrounding Objects exploring materiality, construction, and small-scale architectural interventions across the scales of furniture and architecture, the project reinterprets common materials into new spatial forms through repetition, aggregation, and direct assembly. PARKiosk explores notions of openness, transience, and function while existing on the periphery of architecture, object, and public space.
Drawing inspiration from Enzo Mari’s Autoprogettazione (“self-design”), the project embraces elementary techniques and direct assembly as a means of understanding material, process, and intention. PARKiosk reflects on the kiosk as a public typology associated with exchange, shelter, display, and gathering. Exposed to weather, time, and use, the structure stands not as a final resolution, but as part of an ongoing search for a sincere and enduring standard of practice.
