Surrounding Objects ^TM  is a design studio/workshop for quality objects and architectural environments. We work closely with artists to present collections with variations on a single theme or object. The process and production of work is informed by stories, specific material research and conversations over time to create practical designs for daily use. We gravitate towards objects that represent the economical use of material, often drawing attention to common or overlooked local resources. Surrounding Objects presents these collections in varying formats as a living archive of thoughtful design.


David Getty (USA) and Stephanie Getty (Indonesia) received their Masters in Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design in 2010.  They worked for Salmela Architect in Duluth, Minnesota (USA) before relocating to Jakarta, Indonesia in 2014. The two oversee design and production at Stephanie’s father’s woodworking shop.  They are currently based in Melbourne, Australia.
